What is an Eating Disorder (ED)?

Eating disorders are complicated disorders that result in serious medical issues. The medical consequences can include conditions that hamper recovery, such as cognitive impairment from starvation or stretched stomach from excessive eating. However, for children and young adults the impact on their social, psychological, and emotional development can also impact their ability to get well, as well as have long-term impact on their personal development. With this in mind, as well as the benefits of early treatment, we continue to encourage those caring for children with a possible eating disorder to seek professional help for that child or young adult.
